Cost Per Install (CPI): Offer Flow

As we mentioned this is one of the easiest offer flow’s.

  1. User clicks on your banner or link (gets re-directed the the app store / google play / desktop landing page
  2. User downloads the app/game/extension
  3. User opens the app/game/extension once

Now the affiliate marketer gets paid by the game developer. It’s as simple as that.

Can That Really Be All? KPI’s

A couple years ago, that would have been the flow for every Cost Per Install (CPI) Offer. However, there has been a large volume of affiliate marketers that got quite good at incentivizing users to download apps/extension/games then the user never interacts again.

KPI’s Were Born: Typical KPI Requirements

KPI’s are what protect the developer so they ensure to get an ROI on their investment. Its one thing to pay for a user to download an app/extension/game and part ways with it and another for them to continue using and spend money in the app.

Because of these, the below KPI’s were created and are typically seen on higher CPI offers.

1. Tutorial Completion

User must complete the game tutorial. This is usually bench marked at pre-determined metrics such; tutorial completion >40%

2. Day 1/3/7 Retention

User must interact with the app the on each of those days after the application is installed. This is usually 70%/30%/15% respectively

3. In-App Purchases

User must make an in-app purchase within a specific timeframe. This is usually within the first 7 days after the app is installed

Soft KPI vs Hard KPI

As it sounds one is soft and one is hard. Meaning one is a guideline and the other affects payment. You want to be sure to check with your account manager/offer details before running an offer with KPI just so you have the right expectations.
